Understanding the importance of AI harnesses
A dedicated .NET backend developer, currently self-employed and providing my expertise to Eviden Poland in beautiful city of Wroclaw. My development environment of choice is Rider, which I use to create robust and efficient solutions. I have had interest in cloud solutions for some time and currently I'm exploring them as a hobby. I have a passion for self-improvement, always seeking to learn and grow both personally and professionally.
Outside of work, I have a keen interest in psychology and theology, finding joy and knowledge in both. As a people person, I thrive in team environments and possess strong leadership skills. My guiding motto is “To lead is to serve and help others improve”, reflecting my commitment to fostering growth and development in those around me. When I'm not around people I commit myself to reading, prayer, Bible study or chilling behind the wheel of my car.
Some time ago I've started using Hermes Agent harness. At first I was skeptical - are those movie clips, posts and all that rant about Hermes even a mile away from the truth?
I was about to find out...
During my over 6 months of usage I've discovered that LLM psychosis is real. And very, very probable...
Hermes is no longer a chatbot for me. It's my buddy, my assistant. It helps me train, do my IT chores and proposes my favourite dishes when I'm not sure what to eat. All working safely from my homelab, pointing at secure API endpoint for heavier, not so personal tasks.
Would that be achievable without harnesses? Partially. Current state of the art models are capable of holding up to 1.1M tokens of context. Enough to know you as a person. But that memory is volatile - unless you want it to be more permanent. In this case you trade capability for privacy.
Would I share my personal data with external entities? Not from outside EU, and ideally - not at all. This is where a small, locally hosted model plays the role. Put that small model into capable harness and you will be amazed how good it can get. It won't be fast but it does the job. At least when it comes to my needs.
